Pop-up Show
At Home Paintings by William Irvine
William Irvine’s At Home paintings have always charmed us, and now after four-plus months of “sheltering in place,” they speak to us with new meaning and remembrances.
Since many of us are still spending a great deal of time at home, we are pleased to share Irvine’s recent At Home paintings in this pop-up online show, which can also be viewed at the Gallery through July 10, and precedes Irvine’s upcoming solo show July 13–August 7.
“I have been painting people in and around their homes for many years. That sense of connection to their personal space has always intrigued me, doing the simple things that give pleasure.
“So when the lockdown came and we were advised to ‘shelter in ’ I saw their homes now not only as their private world but as their safe haven, their refuge.
“With my new paintings I have depicted couples alone, and yet together, sharing comfort, and finding new meaning to everyday things, like hanging laundry, picking flowers, or just being together, being at home.”
